Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information givnTable collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We've kept it plain-language. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@givntable.com.
Who we are
givnTable operates a platform where people host and attend dinner parties that raise money for nonprofits, make direct donations to causes, and (where available) book restaurant reservations. This policy covers the givnTable website, web app, and related emails. It applies to guests, donors, hosts, nonprofit partners, and restaurant partners.
Information we collect
- Account information — your name, email address, and password when you create a guest, host, nonprofit, or restaurant account. For nonprofits and restaurants we also collect a contact name, phone number, and organization details.
- Event and RSVP information — events you host or attend, guest lists you enter, RSVP responses, a plus-one's name if you add one, and any personal note you include in an invitation.
- Donation and payment information — the amount you pay or donate and related transaction records. Card details are entered directly with our payment processor (Stripe); givnTable does not receive or store your full card number.
- Reservation information — if you book a table, the restaurant, date, time, party size, and any special request you provide.
- Communications — messages you send us, and reviews you leave after a restaurant visit.
- Device and usage information — basic technical data such as your browser type and interactions with the site, and data stored locally on your device (including for the installable/offline app experience).
- Nonprofit & restaurant business information — publicly available business details (name, address, website, phone, and, for prospecting, a business contact email) that we may collect to build our partner pipeline.
How we use your information
- To run dinner-party events, process RSVPs, and send invitations and reminders.
- To process payments, donations, refunds, and (for partners) subscription billing through Stripe.
- To route your contribution to the nonprofit you're supporting and record its impact (such as hearts and votes tied to your giving).
- To provide restaurant discovery, reservations, and member discounts.
- To send you transactional email (confirmations, receipts, cancellation notices, dispute and account notices).
- To operate, secure, and improve the platform, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations.
How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as described here:
- With the nonprofit you support. When you contribute through an event or a direct donation, the nonprofit receives information reasonably needed to acknowledge and steward your gift — which may include your name, email, and contribution amount. Nonprofit partners agree to use this information only for purposes a donor would reasonably expect (such as thanking you and reporting impact), not to sell it, and to comply with applicable privacy and anti-spam laws.
- With hosts. A host can see who they invited and the RSVP/contribution status for their own event.
- With restaurant partners. When you book a table, the restaurant receives the reservation details needed to hold and serve your table.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf, including Stripe (payments and subscription billing), Supabase (database and authentication), Resend (transactional email), Netlify (hosting), and Google (Places data used to build our partner pipeline).
- For legal reasons — to comply with the law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the platform.
- In a business transfer — if givnTable is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may transfer as part of that transaction.
Payments
Payments and donations are processed by Stripe. Contributions to nonprofits are processed as direct charges on the nonprofit's connected Stripe account, which makes the nonprofit the merchant of record for those transactions. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by Stripe's own privacy policy. givnTable stores transaction records (such as amounts and payment identifiers) but not your full card details.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and similar local-storage technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, enable the installable/offline app, and understand basic usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect how the site works.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correction — you can view and update your account information from your dashboard, or ask us for help.
- Deletion — you can ask us to delete your account and associated personal information, subject to records we must retain for legal, tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention reasons.
- Email preferences — you can opt out of non-essential emails; we'll still send transactional messages needed to complete your requests (like receipts and cancellation notices).
- Regional rights — depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information. Contact us to exercise them.
To make any of these requests, email hello@givntable.com.
Data retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the platform, then retain what we must for legal, tax, accounting, and fraud-prevention purposes before deleting or anonymizing it.
Security
We use administrative and technical safeguards to protect personal information, including access controls on sensitive guest and donor data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children
givnTable is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll take reasonable steps to let you know.
